What Causes a Loose USB Port?
When you first buy any device that connects with USB, whether you’re plugging your phone into a laptop or into a charger, you’ll know that that brand new fit is always super snug. That’s a good thing. It means that the contact is secure and you won’t have issues with the device unintentionally disconnecting.
However, down the line, you’ll find your USB port loose, and you might not know what the reason is for that. Well, there’s a simple reason for it.
A USB device uses contact springs to hold its plug in place. These are tiny pieces of metal that are pushed down when you insert a plug. They try to retract to their normal state. But instead, just press against the plug that has now been inserted. This is what helps hold the USB cable in place.
When these springs become weakened from regular use, they won’t hold the plug in place as firmly as they did at the start. This is what happens when you notice your USB ports loose. Fortunately, a loose USB connector isn’t the end of the world (or the device!). You can quickly get the loose USB feeling firm again with a little fix. That’s what the next section of this article will show you, so keep reading if you want to get to fixing the USB port.
