Bristles and Sensitive Tissues, Oh My!

One rule, NEVER USE THE METAL STEM directly on your skin! We probably don’t have to tell you that bristles hurt too. Safety and hygiene always come first. That means no reusing what can’t be thoroughly cleaned–at least if you want your dentist (or OBGYN) to turn that frown upside down at your next appointment!

Make 100% sure your rechargeable toothbrush is waterproof before using this anywhere near the wet stuff (we mean water, but of course be mindful of body fluids too).

If you really want to know what it feels like to use bristles or the metal stem, we agree with the recommendation of Dr. Streicher’s at Self.com to cover your toothbrush head with something a towel, or to use a toothbrush vibrator attachment.

Scarleteen also recommends trying the non-bristled end of your rechargeable toothbrush for fun. But you’ll realize quickly that the vibration isn’t very satisfying on that end, which is the reason why we really recommend getting one of these body safe and ultra-discreet toothbrush massager heads. You’ll always have it with you and no one would guess it’s your sex toy!

Our 100% body-safe toothbrush vibrator attachments

Our 100% body-safe toothbrush vibrator attachments, Allore (internal/external use), Okamei (internal/external use) and Ceola (external use), attach seamlessly to most electric Sonicare and Oral-B toothbrushes so you never have to worry about these dirty details.

Experiment with speed and pressure

If your vibrator has different speed settings, try starting on the slowest one. You can change the speed or pressure of your vibrator to influence sensitivity.

There are vibrators designed for internal or penetrative stimulation and vibrators for external stimulation. Each type requires experimentation. For example, using a rabbit vibrator, which has elements that provide internal and external stimulation, will be different from using a bullet vibrator, which is designed primarily for external stimulation.

9) Try edging

The 5-minute speed jerk is fine for most days. But if you have a little extra time, “edging”—also called the stop-and-start method—can help you achieve more intense orgasms, Morse promises.

Work yourself right up to the edge of ejaculation and then take a short break—just enough time for your erection to soften a bit. Then start the process over again. Do this three or four times before you orgasm, and you’ll experience more profound, powerful ejaculations, Morse says.

Rubbing against something

This is another favourite masturbatory position. Instead of applying direct stimulation to the clitoris with your fingers, you rub against something, using the effect of pressure and friction to climax.

Position: Most women who masturbate this way lie on their stomach with their genitals pressed firmly into the bed with a pillow or cushion between their legs to rub against. Others lie on their backs with a blanket or pillow between their legs and use their hands to hold either side of the pillow to keep the pressure firm. One woman I know thrusts against a rolled up sock, another the arm of her teddy bear (!) Some women still use their fingers but use a pillow or crunch their legs tightly together to increase the pressure. You can also sit on the floor and thrust against the leg of a chair.

Technique: Remember when you were too young to go ‘all the way’ but used to hump against your boyfriend’s leg and hip for stimulation? This is the same technique. Generally, you hold the object still and move against it, rather than the other way round, though some women will pull a sheet or blanket through their legs rhythmically.

6. Take pointers from how you typically masturbate

The point of a sex toy might be to experience something completely different than what you can do on your own, and that’s cool too. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed when it comes to technique and you already know other forms of masturbation you enjoy, it can be helpful to start there. “Think about how you masturbate without a toy,” says Howard. What kind of stimulation do you like? Internal or external, gentle or firm, fast or slow…you get the idea. “From there, you can kind of gauge what you’re going to enjoy from a sex toy.”

By the way, this is also a good trick for picking a sex toy in the first place, says Howard. “You can basically reverse-engineer previous pleasure to figure out what kind of toys you should be looking for,” she says.

Wash your vibrator

Once you’ve purchased a vibrator, the first thing you want to do is wash it. Make sure it’s free from any dirt, bacteria, or packaging chemicals.

Explore your body

For most women, the clitoris is their most sensitive area. In fact for the majority of women, clitoral stimulation is the only way they will reach orgasm. If you’re one of these people, you can use  your vibrator to tease your clitoris and vulva without inserting, if you’d prefer.

We made Crescendo bendable so that you could have both internal and clitoral stimulation at the same time.

Before you insert your vibrator, turn it  to a low intensity and gently press it against your clitoris – some people with vaginas like to do this over their underwear as direct stimulation can be a little too intense.

You can also use this same technique to tease your nipples. Gentle stimulation like this will increase your ability to climax, and make your experience more intense and pleasurable in the long run.

Types of female masturbation

Four main types of masturbation are the most common. Jumping ahead, you can use each of those separately or combine in all possible ways you can only think of.

Clitoral masturbation aka most common

Clitoral masturbation is the most common because it’s easy, doesn’t require toys, and can be a quick sexual tension relief.

Most likely, you can use your finger or two, but also vibrating sex toys would be useful here. You rubbing against your clit building up the orgasm and once you reach the peak, you would feel tingly feeling throughout your skin and your brain. Try laying on your back for a stronger effect.

  • Massage the upper fleshy part of your pelvic bone with one or a couple of fingers in circle movements, running down to your inner lips and vulva.
  • Make V letter with your fingers and place it on your lady-lips having your clit in-between. Start rubbing yourself, finding the most pleasant rhythm.
  • Place 4 fingers on your flesh and start to move in circles till you get wet, or I would suggest not waiting for that by simply adding lube or your saliva will do the magic too. Continue playing with speed and pause for a few moments before you want to come and then continue again. That would help you to build tension to have a more intense orgasm.
  • Use a clit vibrator or any vibrator. Vibrations stimulate you and help to reach orgasm without any hand movements. There are also sucking and tongue effect clitoral toys that is a must to try.

Vaginal masturbation aka find your G-spot for fuck’s sake

I hate that myth about women not experience vaginal orgasms. Whoever spread the word into the world should take it back. That just a mean thing to say and ruins the mood — one of the reasons nearly all of my girl-friends didn’t experience G-Spot orgasm. Maybe you won’t have orgasms right away, but at least it’s going to be fun trying. To get a better feeling of vaginal masturbation — try squatting.

  • Play around your vaginal opening with your fingers or a sex toy. Once you feel like you are wet enough — go all in. Also, you can add lube, always a plus.
  • Start stimulating stroking movements as you would have with a real penis inside. Go dipper in circular movements with your fingers or a sex toy. That way, it would be easier to find your G-Spot, which can slightly be misplaced from the mathematician center of your vagina.
  • Go faster once you feel like it and increase the stroking till you get to the point where you are ready to cum. Don’t worry if you won’t have a vaginal orgasm or won’t find your G-Spot that is okay, and you have a lot of time to try again. The more you practice, the more you get familiar with your body and what it enjoys.

Anal masturbation to spice up things

Anal masturbation can be groundbreaking. Also, it is another way to search for that damn G-Spot, everyone just can’t shut up about.

Anal play can be surprisingly fun if you have never tried anal, or you were convinced that anal is fun only with real penis inside. While we are on this topic, let me mention that the size of a penis or sex toy for anal can be any size possible. As long as you are relaxed and add enough lube — it won’t hurt, and you will get a pleasant experience. You’d have better access in a doggy position with your face down. Now back to techniques.

  • Get some lube and start massaging yourself around your anal. After you feel like you are ready, slowly insert a finger or the tip of the sex toy. You can play around to relax even more an feel the pleasure by placing the tip in and out before moving further.
  • Combine circle motions with in-and-out penetration till you feel like the tension is building up, and you feel like you want to finish.
  • Use anal plugs and anal beads. They are great to try anal for the first time. Always put lots of lube, no matter what you are using.

Combo masturbation because you can and deserve it

One of my favorite masturbation techniques. Combos are great. Why order just a burger if you can have fries and a drink on top of that.

With the combo, you can integrate two or three or all of the techniques at once. You can stimulate your clit while penetrating your vagina or anal. Try having a butt plug while penetrating yourself and playing with your clit. It sounds like a lot of work, but worth it. You are the wizard, and it is up to you, but here are some ideas.

  • Use both of your hands at once. Choose what you are concentrating on, and you are golden.
  • Be extra and wild. Combine different speeds or motions while playing with your clit and penetrating yourself.
  • Don’t forget about your erogenous zones. Grab your body’s most sensitive parts to stimulate yourself even more. Imagine this, since technologies went wild, you can have a self-thrusting remote dildo, sucking butterfly toy for your clit, putt plug in your anal, and nipple clamps or sucker pumps. One intense combo, right!

Warning

While vibrators work to enhance most women’s sex lives, there is also a dark side to them that some women fall prey to.

Don’t worry; I’m not talking about addiction! It’s something a little more subtle.

When you start using your vibrator, you’ll notice how the strong vibrations make it easy to orgasm; it’s even been described as “inescapable” [5]. Over time, if you consistently use your vibrator instead of other means to masturbate and orgasm, your body will begin to adjust to the strength of your vibrator. When you switch back to using only your hands, many women notice that they can’t possibly provide as much pleasure as your vibrator can, making it much harder to orgasm.

The same is true for regular sex. If your body has adjusted to the intense vibrations of your vibrator, then you may begin having difficulty climaxing as your man can’t provide nearly as much stimulation. This dependency on your vibrator can be frustrating and even doctors who recommend vibrators to couples are advised to prepare them for this possibility [6]. Of course, the solution is simple, stop using your vibrator for a few months and your sensitivity will return.

The last thing to say on this guide to using your vibrator is that it was very in-depth and covered a lot of areas. Often when you’re about to use yours, you’re already horny, so you can skip all the foreplay and preparation that I discussed at the start of the guide and go straight to the techniques you enjoy most.

Choosing The Right Vibrator For You

Before learning how to use a vibrator, you want to choose the one, and there are a couple of vital factors to take into consideration:

Power – The most important factor when selecting a vibrator for yourself is making sure it’s powerful enough. If you currently struggle to orgasm either during sex or masturbation and require a lot of intense stimulation to get yourself over the edge, then mostly likely you’ll need a more powerful vibrator.

Related: If you want to give your man back-arching, toe-curling, screaming orgasms that will keep him sexually addicted to you, then you’ll find them in my private and discreet newsletter. You’ll also learn the 5 dangerous & “dumb” sex mistakes that turn him off and how to avoid them. Get it here.

This means that you’ll need to avoid the cheap options which often don’t deliver much stimulation and stick with mid to high-end vibrators that include the likes of Lelo, WeVibe, the Hitachi Magic Wand, Sybian and well made “rabbit” style vibrators.

Modes & Settings – Another major issue to consider before splashing the cash on a brand new vibe is what modes or settings it has. With many vibrators, you can adjust the intensity of the vibration. This is awesome as it means you can customize it to get exactly the type of stimulation you want.

On some vibrators, you can also set it to deliver cycles of intensity. This means that the vibrator will automatically change how intense the vibrations are so that you feel pulses or waves of vibration repeatedly building and receding instead of a constant level of intensity.

Most women find this to be a lot more pleasurable than the same continuous power that less well-made vibrators give. In fact, one of the biggest problems with most low-end vibrators is that if the intensity is not right, there is no way to adjust it. So it can end up being too weak or too powerful, and there is nothing you can do to adjust it.

Shape – For many women, the shape of their vibrator is not very important when using it. This is especially true for those of you who are only interested in clitoral stimulation and using your vibrator on the outside of your vagina. If you want penetration also, then obviously the shape of your vibrator is important too.

Thankfully, most stores stock a large variety of shapes and sizes, from vibrators that look like small capsules (bullets) to penis shaped vibrators to smoother forms with bumps and curves in all the right places, so you’ll always be able to find the right shape for your needs.

Noise – The last thing to touch on when choosing a vibrator is noise. If you share a house with others, you will naturally want to be discreet. A noisy, loud vibrator isn’t going to help you achieve this! My advice is to avoid the cheaper, less well-made vibrators is you want a quiet one.

11) Bring your balls into the mix

There are nearly as many sex-specific nerve endings in your testicles as there are in your penis. Don’t neglect them, Morse urges.

While individual preferences and sensitivities play a big role in what you’ll enjoy, a lot of men discover an untapped source of stimulation—and more intense orgasms—by pulling down on their testicles rhythmically before ejaculation.

Some guys learn to ignore their penis entirely as they approach the big O, Morse says.

Set the mood

As we all know, getting in ‘the mood’ doesn’t happen with a flick of a switch. Orgasms can act as great stress relievers, however it can be hard to embrace them when you’re feeling tense, or haven’t set aside time.

Self-pleasure is important, and a wonderful experience if you get it right. For your first time, be sure to set aside adequate time to make yourself feel good.

Start off by dimming the lights, perhaps putting on some calming music, perhaps find some erotica to read or watch, and when you’re feeling relaxed enough, use your fingers to touch yourself.

This is a time to treat in yourself – so there’s no need to rush. Close your eyes and indulge in the moment.

10. Always clean and store it properly

It should seem obvious, but a lot of people forgo proper sex toy care, especially if they’re only using it for masturbation. But it doesn’t matter if you’re the only one using the toy—if it’s going on or in your body, it should be clean. “Not cleaning your sex toy because you’re the only one using it is like eating with the same fork for a month and not washing it,” says Howard. “Sure, it’s only your spit on it, but would you do that? No.”

How to best clean and store your vibrator depends on what kind of vibrator it is, but luckily, this post has everything you need to know about cleaning and storing your toys.
